METRONET reference group welcome move to guide development

The Property Council welcomes the announcement of the METRONET private sector reference group announced by Minister for Transport; Planning; Lands Rita Saffioti.

“Metronet is WA’s most important urban infrastructure project and it will have many flow on impacts  throughout the Perth community and WA’s business sector,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“For the first time, we have a major transport infrastructure plan which is linked up to the WA's planning strategy. This is something the property industry has long called for.

“The reference group will be an ideal opportunity to inform the METRONET office about the sorts of mixed use developments and levels of housing density that will make the station hubs viable and appealing to local communities.

“It is also important that the station hubs aren’t just cookie-cutter precincts but instead work with the local market and communities, for example some hubs will be ideal centres for retirement living and employment hubs.

“We congratulate the Minister for establishing the reference group and the Property Council  looks forward to participating,” Mr Iacomella said.
