Industry hopes new councilors will bring fresh vision for WA
The Property Council congratulates the successful candidates at the local government elections and looks forward to working alongside the newly formed councils to deliver outcomes that will benefit the community.
“We now call on all the newly elected local government members to take up the challenge of growing WA in collaboration with communities and industry,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.
“Local governments have a crucial role in growing WA by ensuring the approvals processes for projects are conducted according to the latest State planning regulations and in a timely manner.
“One important challenge facing local governments is enabling more housing affordability through the creation of more diverse housing, including higher density housing along major transport infrastructure and around activity centres. This will bring supply more in-line with the growing number of small and single-person households and our aging population.
“The Property Council looks forward to working with all of WA’s local governments and their newly elected members to make sure the councils help solve WA’s unique housing affordability problem and build stronger local communities.
“On behalf of industry, we would also like to thank the sitting mayors and councillors that retired or were unsuccessful at the recent elections,” Mr Iacomella said.
