PROPERTY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA WELCOMES GOVERNMENT ADOPTION OF PLAN TO REDUCE RED TAPE
The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the Premier’s commitment to further reduce red tape in Tasmania.
The Tasmanian Executive Director of the Property Council, Brian Wightman, said that the landmark Property Council document ‘Removing the Regulatory Handbrake: Seven Steps to Fix Housing Supply’ was the catalyst for the reforms announced in today’s State of the State speech.
“The Property Council has been leading the debate on this issue for a number of years and it’s fantastic to see the Government adopting our plan. Simplifying planning and building approval processes and releasing more land for development will result in more homes being built, more jobs being created, and, most importantly, more Tasmanians with a roof over their heads” Mr. Wightman said.
“This is another example of how the Property Council is working with our members and alongside the Government to ensure good ideas are put into action”.
“We know the most effective way to deal with the housing crisis is to build our way out of it, but to do that we need to cut through red tape, which is exactly what our plan suggested and what the Government’s new policy will do”.
Mr. Wightman said the Property Council also supported the Government’s announcement on major projects legislation and looked forward to reviewing the bill in detail as soon as it is available.
